From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *dar ~ d(u/i)r (to shiver, to tremble) (STEDT; Schuessler, 2007). Compare Burmese တုန် (tun, to tremble, shake), as well as the following Sinitic terms:

  • (OC *daːn, *daːns, “to shake, play a stringed instrument”)
  • (OC *tjans, “to tremble, battle”).
