Compound of 提灯 (chōchin, paper lantern) +‎ 鮟鱇 (ankō, anglerfish),[1][2][3] from the way that this particular kind of anglerfish's bioluminescent lure looks a bit like a traditional Japanese paper lantern with streamers.
