From the name of a divine flower 曼殊沙華 (MC muɑn d͡ʑɨo ʃˠa ɦˠua|hˠua) as attested in Middle-Chinese translation of Buddhist literature, itself phono-semantic translation of a Sanskrit term (see 曼殊沙華#Etymology).
