Learned borrowing from Chinese 欠伸 (qiànshēn). First attested in the early 1300s writings of Zen monk 明極楚俊 (Minki Soshun), an immigrant to Japan from the Yuan dynasty in China.[1]

This reading appears to be largely obsolete in modern Japanese, and the term is not listed in all dictionaries.[2]
