[edit]Inherited from Old Javanese sekĕt (“fifty”). Contraction of ꦱ- (sa-) + ꦲꦶꦏꦼꦠ꧀ (iket) with monophthongization of -ai- into e.
- This word originated from two lawés (equal to 50 Chinese coins) tied in a bundle (an iket), used for transactions in the old times.
- Erroneously claimed as formed from (a backronym): "seneng kethonan" (enjoys wearing a headcover), as headcovers like kopyah usually worn by Javanese people mainly the Muslims of this age with implicit meaning of increased piousness.
