바보
Korean
Etymology
Of native Korean origin. The original etymology originated from the word "밥보 (bapbo)," which means eating a lot of rice(food), and the origin of the meaning fool comes from the fact that people with intellectual disabilities only eat. This word was born by removing the ㅂ (b) 받침 (batchim) from 밥 (bap) + 보 (bo)
Pronunciation
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈpa̠(ː)bo̞]
- Phonetic hangul: [바(ː)보]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
