    Sino-Korean word from , an orthographic borrowing from Chinese  / (yuán, circle” > “round coin) referring to the piece of eight (compare Japanese (en), Mandarin (yuán)). Doublet of (en, yen (Japanese currency)) and 위안 (wian, yuan (Chinese currency)).
