[edit]By surface analysis, 코 (ko, “nose”) + -ㅅ- (-s-) + 길— (gil-, “long”) + -이 (-i, “-er”, noun-deriving suffix), literally “long-noser”. First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 고〮키리〮 (Yale: kwókhìlí).
