Etymology

[edit]

Possibly an inflected form of *an-seriā-, alternatively reconstructed as *an-serwiā-. This form may have originated as a denominative verb from a noun *an-ser-iom, which itself perhaps consists of an- +‎ an unattested derivative of Proto-Italic *serwos, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ser-. Cognate with Latin serviō.[1]
