Etymology
[edit]Possibly an inflected form of *an-seriΔ-, alternatively reconstructed as *an-serwiΔ-. This form may have originated as a denominative verb from a noun *an-ser-iom, which itself perhaps consists of an- + an unattested derivative of Proto-Italic *serwos, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ser-. Cognate with Latin serviΕ.[1]
