3. for, for the sake of, for the purpose of (forms the benefactive case by appending with the dative case.)

   ‎அவனுக்கு (avaṉukku) + ‎-ஆக (-āka) → ‎அவனுக்காக (avaṉukkāka, “for his sake”)

-ஆக • (-āka)

1. a complementizer - joined with a finite verb to indicate indirect speech.

   அவன் கண்டதாகச் சொன்னாள்.

   avaṉ kaṇṭatākac coṉṉāḷ.

   She said that he saw.

2. used to express the sense of 'by oneself', 'of one's own accord'

   நான் கேட்கவில்லை, அவனாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

   nāṉ kēṭkavillai, avaṉākak koṭuttāṉ.

   I did not ask him, he gave it himself.

3. used to express that something is continuous, growing in excess

   சேலையாக வாங்கிக் குவிக்காதே.

   cēlaiyāka vāṅkik kuvikkātē.

   Stop (purchasing and) piling up the sarees!
