Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Among the Germanic languages this suffix is only found in Gothic, where it seems to have been highly productive. There have been attempts to link it to other Indo-European languages; Joseph (1982) suggests a link with Ancient Greek -ΟΞ± (-pha), an adverbial suffix (found in e.g. ΞΌΞΟΟΞ± (mΓ©spha)), from a supposed Proto-Indo-European *-bΚ°ehβ. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
Suffix
[edit]- -ly; forms adverbs from adjectives.
