Usage notes
- (noun-forming suffix) Harmonic variants:
- This suffix can be attached to certain verbs to express the outcome or what is produced of the action described in the verb:
- ás (“to dig”) → ásvány (“mineral, ore”)
- igazol (“to justify”) → igazolvány (“certificate”)
- Note: The following words, even though they end in -vány, are not derivations: bálvány, dívány, hitvány, márvány, sovány, zsivány.
