Usage notes[edit]

It is common for a typewritten or digital facsimile of a formal letter or legal instrument to replace a signature with this annotation followed by the name of the signatory in plain text. [1] In some cases, this annotation is considered a legally binding electronic signature. [2] A similar kind of electronic signature, the S-signature, consists of the name surrounded by forward slashes. [3]
