Etymology[edit]

Borrowing from Late Latin apoplexia, from Ancient Greek ἀποπληξία ‎(apoplēxía), from ἀποπλήσσειν ‎(apoplḗssein) to cripple by a stroke; ἀπό ‎(apó, from) + πλήσσειν ‎(plḗssein, to strike).
