Cognate with Old Saxon sunnea ‎(true state, emergency, obstacle, excuse, illness), Old High German sunna ‎(truth, valid excuse, justification), Old Norse syn ‎(denial, renunciation), Gothic 𐍃𐌿𐌽𐌾𐌰 ‎(sunja, truth).
