French[edit]

Phonetic alphabet[edit]

This alphabet assigns French names and words to the letters of the alphabet for clearer enunciation on the telephone. Most of them are common French first names, but they can vary according to region, epoch, or speaker's preferences. Although the first alternative is the one used traditionally, some first names are now not very usual and are replaced with some of those in the listed alternatives. There is no standard for this usage in French.
