Proto-Finnic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

*tahtadak from earlier *tašta-. Related to Proto-Samic *tuostōtēk (to seize), suggesting that the word originally meant "to seize", from which the sense "to want" could have developed. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.

The form *tahtoidak has an additional *-j (*tahtoi- < *tašta-j-; see *-oidak).
