Proto-Slavic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *óʔgaʔ. Cognate with Lithuanian úoga and Latvian oga.

Further, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ogeh₂, whence probably also Gothic 𐌰𐌺𐍂𐌰𐌽 (akran, fruit), and possibly Tocharian B oko (fruit, effect).

Has been connected to Old Irish áirne (sloe, fruit of a blackthorn) and Welsh eirin (plums), but these may also reflect *h₂eǵros (field).

Noun[edit]

*a̋goda f (accent paradigm a)

  1. berry
