Etymology[edit]

From Pre-Slavic *pṓˀ-mintis, equivalent to *pa- +‎ Proto-Balto-Slavic *mintís. Grammatically a verbal noun of an early *pamęti +‎ *-tь, parallel to *pomьniti (to remember).
