Calque of Urdu or from Urdu آزاد جموں و کشمیر(āzād jammū̃ o kaśmīr, literally free Jammu and Kashmir), from آزاد(āzād, free, independent) + جموں(jammū̃) + و(o, and) + کشمیر(kaśmīr, Kashmir), from Persian.
