[edit]From Ancient Greek Βασίλειος (Basíleios, “of the king, kingly, royal”), from βασιλεύς (basileús, “king”), adopted with the spread of Western Christianity. Doublet of the Eastern Orthodox variant Vasilije or Vasiljko.
