Category:English lexical doublets

Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Jump to: navigation, search

Here are entries that are coordinated pairs of word. To an entry in Wiktionary the coordinated pair should constitute an idiom. Generally they are idioms. Many became idiomatic because of legal usage. Common collocations that are not idiomatic should be added to Appendix:English lexical doublets.

Sometimes they are terms with different origins or paths into English, typically, from Old English, Old Norse, or other Germanic source; or from Anglo-Norman, Middle French, or Old French; or from Latin or Ancient Greek. See Category:Etymological twins.

The yoked terms may be synonyms, antonyms, coordinate terms, or have some kind of sequential relationship.
