Contrary to the usual vowel development in Sardinian, whereby short Latin /i/ remains /i/, there are a number of cases where Latin /i/ instead yields a mid-vowel, as was the case for nearly all other Romance languages. Generally this occurred in unstressed final syllables, especially in verb endings (not shown below).
