Etymology

From Den (“the”) + sentralafrikanske (“Central African”) + republikk (“republic”), literally “the Central African republic”. According to NAOB, sentralafrikansk (“Central African”) is modelled on English Central African; compare the country's official French name République centrafricaine (“Central African Republic”).

Parallel formations include Swedish Centralafrikanska republiken, German Zentralafrikanische Republik, Dutch Centraal-Afrikaanse Republiek and English Central African Republic.
