Etymology

[edit]

Possibly from rare French friseur, first attested 1551. Alternatively an independent pseudo-French formation from frisieren +‎ -eur. Most northern and eastern European languages that have this word probably borrowed it from German. Compare Polish fryzjer, Danish frisør, etc.
