Etymology[edit]

Guthrie +‎ sweet whiskey. Named after Samuel Guthrie, the inventor of chloroform, and combined with his own term, "sweet whiskey", for his product. The product was produced from whiskey combined with chlorinated lime, and is of a sweet nature.
