Himb

Central Franconian[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Old High German hemidi, from Proto-Germanic *hamiþiją. While Ripuarian Hemb as well as Luxembourgish Hiem look more regular, the predominant Moselle Franconian -i- seems difficult to explain, unless one were to postulate an Old High German variant *himidi or possibly *hēmidi.
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
Himb n (plural Himmer or Himber, diminutive Himbche)
- (many dialects of Moselle Franconian) shirt
