From Classical Persian اصفهان (isfahān), ultimately from Old Persian *spādāna- (“connected with the army”) or *spādānām (“of the armies”), from 𐎿𐎱𐎠𐎭 (spāda-, “army”)[1], from Proto-Iranian *cwáHdaH (“army”); see it for more.
