From Slavic, from Ottoman Turkish قوقوروز (kokoroz); ultimately from Albanian kokërr (pellet, grain).[1] Cognate with Russian кукуруза (kukuruza), Serbo-Croatian kukuruz, Hungarian kukorica, Slovene koruza, Polish kukurydza, etc.
