Etymology[edit]

Named after the saint-preacher Shah Madar; thus ultimately a trilingual compound of Arabic مَدَار (madār, “orbit”) + Bengali -ঈ (-i, adjectival suffix) + Sanskrit पुर (pura, “fortress, town”).
