[edit]Etymology
[edit]The place is named after the River Mayenne, probably of Celtic origin, from Proto-Celtic *madyeti (“to burst, spread”); alternatively, from Latin madeo (“to be wet”). Both are ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *meh₂d- (“to be wet, moist”).
