上班 and 工作/做工

[edit]

@The dog2 I think 工作/做工 and 上班 are slightly different. @RcAlex36, Wpi31 what do you think? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 09:37, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

他今天沒上班, 他今天沒做工, 他今天沒工作 - do all of these mean the same thing? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 09:53, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't know the word 做工, but 上班 (to go to work) and 工作 (to do work) are definitely different. You can go to work (the workplace) but sitting at the desk and do nothing. – Wpi31 (talk) 10:58, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: In China, 做工 only applies to manual labour, while 上班 and 工作 are used more generically. Singapore does not make that distinction, so 做工 is used regardless of what job you have. And yeah, it's true that there is a slight difference between 上班 and 工作. The dog2 (talk) 13:46, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
