Italian

Etymology

[edit]

Morphologically from monte (mountain, mount) +‎ peloso (hairy), probably just an alteration of the original Latin name mōns (mountain, mount) + lapillōsus (covered in pebbles). The name of the town was changed in Irsina in 1895, probably to give a more pleasant and harmonious sound to it.
