    From Proto-Indo-European *h₁ēd-s-om (eaten), from *h₁ed- (to eat). Related to *etaną. Cognate with Proto-Slavic *ěsa (food, dish) < *h₁ed-s-eh₂, Tocharian B: yetse (skin) < *h₁ed-s-os.
