From Proto-Indo-European *gʰlewH- (clear, sharp); cognate with Old Irish gluair (clear, clean) and perhaps *glūnēn- (to peer), whence dialectal Swedish gluna (to stare, peer) and Latvian glũnêt (to lour).[1]
