Etymology

From Proto-Eastern Malayo-Polynesian *ʀobək, from Proto-Central-Eastern Malayo-Polynesian *ʀəbək, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ʀəbək. Arnold (2025) reconstructs *ʀopak, but this fails to explain the b in the Biga and Cenderawasih Bay reflexes.
