Etymology[edit]

From *bosti +‎ *-ati, an iterative variant of the punctual *boďati < Proto-Balto-Slavic *badˀīti, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰedʰ- (to pierce). Cognate with Latvian badît, Lithuanian badýti.
