Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *neśtei (to carry), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁neḱ- (Derksen), *neḱ- / *eneḱ- (to reach, arrive, carry) (ЭССЯ) or *h₂neḱ-. Cognates include Ancient Greek ἤνεγκα (ḗnenka, I brought) (aorist of φέρω (phérō)).
