Etymology[edit]

Adjective svatý (holy) refers to the fact that the local church was a famous place of traditional pilgrimages. Noun kopeček (little hill), which is a diminutive of kopec (hill), refers to its location on a low hill.

Originally two similar names were used for the settlement: Svatá Hora (Holy Mountain) and Svatý Kopeček, the latter one prevailing since the end of the 19 century to distinguish it from another pilgrimage place Svatá Hora near Příbram.[1]
