[edit]From earlier runic ᛏᛁᚢᛦ (tiuʀ), recorded on the Ribe skull fragment (ca 725 AD, from Proto-Germanic *tīwaz; identical to týr (“god”). Cognate with Old English Tīw, Old Saxon Tīi, Old High German Zīu.
