Unusual reading for 澄 in several postal romanizations[edit]

What explains these readings? Dialect?

  1. 海澄 (Hǎichéng)

Britannica World Atlas 1967 p58 "Haiteng";

https://archive.org/details/mapofchinashan/page/16 "Haiteng ... ... ... 海澄 " ... ... 福建 ... 24.26 111.34E";

https://archive.org/details/shinachimeishsei00japa/page/60 "Haiteng-hsien 海澄縣 福建省南部厦門の西"

This can be seen for other postal romanizations too.
