@Mx. Granger What you've cited only shows that 後車廂 is (likely) used as "trunk of a vehicle", not 車廂. Do you have other proof? Dokurrat (talk) 15:21, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

The same word is used a few other times in the same story (the edition I have uses simplified characters):

• 休息够了，我们分三次，将这小山也似的一堆鱼全部吊上崖去，放进车厢里，上面用小冰箱里的碎冰铺上。
• 我们非常高兴，飞奔去车厢里挑了十条大鱼给他。
• 在我们车厢里，有二十多条。
• 这个同事是个老光棍，也是个粗线条的好汉，他走过去看看黑板，再看看打开的车厢，明白了，马上走回来，捉了我们两个就过街去。
