Pronunciation[edit]

how do you pronounce this in pu tong hua?

Etymology[edit]

What is the literal meaning other than the fact that it's a surname (and outside of the musical instrument)? 24.29.228.33 01:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My personal opinion is that I'm afraid that this surname's etymology is not easy to trace. Dokurrat (talk) 07:44, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hokkien MoE Holodict[edit]

@Justinrleung Item 2 at the MoE entry seems to say gún is more common for women to refer to themselves in a song. Also Tainan data guán(男);gún(女), not sure how to interpret this but seems like it could be additional info. Hongthay (talk) 05:23, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Hongthay This article might give some insight: "有朋友回應講,教育部台語常用詞典,「阮」所收个台南音,伊註明查埔儂講 guán,查某儂講 gún。我毋知影迄份調查,到底有問過幾个儂,咁有代表性?但是我實在真歹相信講,台南無論老儂囡仔,大大細細,只要查埔儂一律講 guán,只要查某儂一律講 gún,即種台語腔口實在不可思議。" One of the responses to the article: "潘兄,我台南儂,阮兜無分查埔查某攏講guan." — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 12:16, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
