Sexual attraction[edit]

Currently includes "abnormal liking for or tendency towards". Should we add the simple 'sexual attraction to'? RJFJR 17:29, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think there should be something in the definition indicating some kind of intensity, I don't believe the term is used to describe anything 'simple'. If that were the case then people would have a philia for all the hundreds of things they like about life. Ty 12:16, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sense evolution[edit]

Idly, I wonder how old each sense is, for this suffix and for -phobia, and whether the "literal" senses are older ("love", "fear") or the less literal ones ("abnormal, especially sexual, interest", "dislike / hatred / prejudice"), and how much time elapsed between them, and whether (as I heard someone asserting recently) there is a clear shift in which meaning is usual. I'll try to track this down later. - -sche (discuss) 21:49, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
