Transliterations

AFAICT DVD written in the Latin script just stays DVD when you transliterate it. Mglovesfun (talk) 23:22, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

If you insist, OK! Be careful changing Arabic when using mixed scripts, don't forget the right-to-left order. The view while editing may not match when it's saved. مشغل should appear on the right of "DVD", but read as "máshghal DVD". The physical order (when typing) should be مشغل then "DVD". It's more obvious in the pure Arabic script - مشغل دي في دي (máshghal dii fii dii) --Anatoli 23:38, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps because a good modern dictionary contains DVD player along with television, washing machine and other household appliances and there is nothing wrong with the entry, only the essential useful linguistic information. I would hate it to be deleted. I think a DVD player is a word and we should keep it. --Anatoli 10:40, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

This term is not sum-of-parts, because AFAIK a DVD player originally does not play every DVD disc: just the formats DVD-Video and DVD-Audio. Other formats, like DivX, MP3, Jpeg, Audio CD, etc. are modern bonuses. In addition, modern DVD players play CDs too, which aren't DVDs. --Daniel. 11:15, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
