Looking at citations, it seems that writers believe starting positions for "standing" Indian wrestling can differ: upper limbs: handshake grip, hands on elbows, arms locked (arm-in-arm); lower limbs: foot to foot, legs locked)
A significantly different sense appears in physical education manuals: a starting position with the contestants lying on their back on the floor; shoulders together, but legs in opposite directions; somehow locking limbs; the object being to put one's opponent face down.
