The Greek translation of Theodoros is not unambiguous. The suffix "-doros" can be a passive participle so it can be translated as "gift" (old English for something "given", cf. bereave => bereft, etc.). Another possible translation of "-doros" would be "enDOWed" ("-dow-" cognate to "-doros" in this respect too) in the sense that someBODY was endowed by god, or plainly "gifted". In this sense Theodoros is not only a gift of god (or gods) for humanity, the world, etc. but also himself giftED, endowed by (the) god(s) with a talent. Both translations are valid and of merging meaning. To be endowed, to have a gift is equatable with being a gift, at least in classical Greek belief in hero(in)es. Cf.
