A greeting used instead of "hello" by the Black Uhuru movement. WP says Black Uhuru is a band! Creator was a bit of a problem if I remember rightly, creating an entry for the rap musician The Game, etc. Equinox 22:56, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think he meant the w:Uhuru movement, in his typical stream-of-consciousness/word-association style. I can find a few references to the practice (for instance, here, here, here, here, here, and here. It seems to be have been used by other African nationalists before it was adopted by the Uhuru movement, though. That's not surprising, since it's simply the Swahili word for freedom, and we should probably add an English section to uhuru- it seems to be used a lot in African political discussions.
