Does 'peripenultimate' exist as a synonym for antepenultimate? I use it myself thus, and know a few others who do, but having read antepenultimate, it seems peripenultimate would mean 'around the next to last'... —This unsigned comment was added by 18.104.22.168 (talk).
Yes, and I have added it as a synonym -- though not given it its own entry.
I first encountered the word when studying Greek, but no longer have the reference material and texts in which it was used, and have not quickly found them doing an internet search. However, each of the following books(all searchable on googlebooks), all recent, use the term in the contexts given:
- chemistry [Canadian Journal of Chemistry - Volume 68, Issues 1-4 - Page 288]
- stress [Louis Dudek & Raymond Souster - Page 61]
- artistic work [The Art of Edward Thomas - Page 128]
- line of a poem [Collected poems - Page 169]
