French Pronunciation[edit]

I'm not finding any sources for the pronunciation /ba.o.bab/ so can someone back that up? The citation for the entry gives /ba.ɔ.bab/ as does Larousse and even French Wiktionary. I added that pronunciation for now as an alternative, but if anyone can give me a source which lists the other as a legitimate pronunciation that'd be great, thanks! 2WR1 (talk) 00:17, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Probably only /ba.ɔ.bab/ is correct, but in contemporary French the distinction between /ɔ/ and /o/ (as well as /ɛ/ and /e/) is commonly lost everywhere except for the last (i.e. stressed) syllable of a word. Neutralised unstressed vowels are [ɔ], [ɛ] in closed syllables and [o], [e] in open syllables. Accordingly [ba.o.bab] is a pronunciation you will hear. 90.186.170.69 13:33, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
